Josephine Angelini

I was supposed to be a boy.
At least, my mother was convinced I was going to be a boy when she was pregnant with me. She claimed that I "carried" like a boy, but since I'm the youngest of eight, and I have six sisters and only one beloved brother, it is reasonable to assume that my mother was simply suffering from a massive case of wishful thinking. Whatever the reasons, my parents were so convinced I was going to be a boy they had even decided on a boy name for me—Joseph.

But I'm a girl.

My mother, always a frugal woman, figured, why throw out a perfectly good name just because the gender's wrong? She put a handy "ine" on the end of Joseph, and I'm rather glad she did. I like my name, or at least I realize it could have been much worse. They could have been planning on calling me Ralph or something. Not much you can do with Ralph.
I grew up surrounded by women.
And not just normal, average women, either. My sisters are, without exaggeration, a pack of Amazons. They are all tall. They have masses of thick hair, gigantic smiles, ringing laughs, and unfortunately for me, they all have fiery tempers. You see—I'm not only the youngest, but the smallest as well. I also happen to be a natural wiseass. Not a healthy combination.

Lucky for me, I'm fast.

Maria V. Snyder

Maria V. Snyder switched careers from meteorologist to novelist when she began writing the New York Timesbest-selling Study Series (POISON STUDY, MAGIC STUDY and FIRE STUDY) about a young woman who becomes a poison taster. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, Maria dreamed of chasing tornados and even earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Meteorology from Pennsylvania State University. Unfortunately, she lacked the necessary forecasting skills. So she worked as an environmental meteorologist until boredom and children drove her to write down the stories that have swirling around in her head. Writing, proved to be more enjoyable than meteorology, and Maria returned to school to earn a Master of Arts degree in fiction writing from Seton Hill University. Unable to part company with Seton Hill and its wonderful writing program, Maria is currently a teacher and mentor for the MFA program.

Janni Lee Simner

Janni Lee Simner was born aboard a pirate ship, but as soon as she came of age booked passage with a caravan bound for the Sahara, and spent the next decade as a seeker of lost cities, hidden tombs, and ancient artifacts. While hiding from assassins in the lost Library of Alexandria, however, she discovered she really preferred telling stories, and so she settled down in the Sonoran desert to write, interrupted only by the occasional map-bearing stranger or man-eating Gila monster.

Josephine: The story about your name is hilarious! It's the same with my mom's family: she has 6 sisters including herself and one brother, who's the youngest. ^_^

I had to laugh about Lindsey thinking a pool was an adequate bath. That cracked me up. And the image of a chlorinated peed in pool... gag. hahahahaha

I had no idea Jannie Lee Simner wrote The Ghost Horse. I remember reading that in 5th grade! I absolutely loved that book. I can't remember it but I remember a classmate and I getting into an argument about it. It was really petty and dumb (the argument).

Josephine: I think it's pretty common for the youngest to be quite the natural wiseass :) At least I know that's also the case with me!

I also wish her book tour would come a little closer to Florida!

Bones of Faerie by Janni Lee Simner sounds right up my ally. A post-apocalyptic fairy tale? Yes please!

Okay, first of all, what can I say about Josephine Angelini!?!? She is, by far, one of the sweetest authors I've ever interacted with! SERIOUSLY! She is an amazingly sweet, very warm-hearted lady. And so very humble - I love it. Her humor, clear and distinct in that little piece about her name, is very apparent in her writing. She's humble and self-deprecating, but this author packs a punch in her writing. Move over Stephenie Meyer - a new literary gem is in town!!! :D

However, my favorite part about her site - I dunno if anyone's noticed, but the colors are an exact reflection of the cover of the book, which I love. Also, her posts are always funny and hilarious! :D

Wow, Janni Lee Simner's site is so simple yet so cute. But this is the fun thing that I learned from her site - In addition to her 3 books, she's also published more than 30 short stories for kids, teens, and adults! She's far more accomplished as an author, than I anticipated. I stand rectified, and in total admiration of this author! :D

Josephine - her website is GORGEOUS! I love the story about her name...it reminds me of my mom. Her dad wanted to name the baby Robert, so when they found out it was a girl they went with Roberta. She absolutely hates it!

Lindsey - I liked that she was a tom-boy growing up because I was too. I swear I used to tell people I wanted to be a boy. Kinda embarassing now though!

Maria - I love how far she goes for research to make her books as realistic as possible, I think that's awesome! And wow, meteorologist to author, that's a pretty big leap.

Janni - I enjoyed her little "fantasy bio" that she had before her actual bio. And I like that she added pics of her as a kid.

Janni Lee Simner: Her website is classic, and simple. It's also resourceful, so I know where to go, what to look for. I love her Bones of Faerie series, although I'd like it if her website was as lovely as her book covers. Not that bad of a website, just a little boring.

Maria V. Snyder: Wow, her website is pretty blue and swirly, haha, like her book cover. Anyways, I like how she has all her links in one place, just like Simner, but it's still a bit dull. It's nice that she has her BIG NEWS for everyone to see without clicking on anything; very convenient.

Lindsey Leavitt: I really like her website! It's really cute, it's colorful, and it's just so ADORABLE! I really really like this site of hers...and she has her tweets and newsletter all there, in one spot. I LIKE THAT. This is a very very good website. I really like it...sigh.

Josephine Angelini: Her website is just as colorful as her book cover. But I really adore her header! The flowers add a nice touch to the site. It's organized, it's simple, it's pretty. I LIKE IT TOO. And it's cool how she has videos concerning her book. Very entertaining.

Josephine's site - Love her site! It's beautiful. I love blue and purple. Her about me was hella funny. I have a younger brother and I always wished i had a younger/older sister too.

Lindsey's site - Yikes! My three favorite colors: Blue, Green and Pink! Loved her site (although the pink fonts kind of hurt my eyes) and her bio cracked me up! It was evolving from Really Short to Long! LMAO! I loved it! "I thought I’d hung up the phone after talking to this boy I liked." This totally happened to me! It was embarrassing! Eek!

Maria's site - I love the Cover Art Gallery section. All covers were beautiful. I loved the Italian covers for Study Series. I liked her blog too. Wonderful layout. I love butterflies!

Janni's site - Her site is really simple, but I loved how the pen appeared on every page. It was like telling me "I'm watching you!" Ha! I loved that short Imaginary Bio she made up. I wish i had a life full of adventures too.
