Holly Nicole Hoxter

I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD and still live here with my awesome husband and our four large cats. I have two wonderful parents and approximately two brothers and four sisters. When I'm not writing, I like to read, run, take long baths, and avoid cleaning my house. If I could have anything in the world, it would be a Corvette.

I received my BA degree in English from the University of Maryland, College Park, where I fondly remember eating lots of bagels and doing the crossword puzzle during class.

I've only ever wanted to be a writer, but somehow I've also been a cashier, salad bar clerk, relay operator for the deaf, housecleaner, and legal word processor. Some of these jobs produced better writing material than others. I currently work from home as a medical transcriber and occasional pet sitter. This means I spend a lot of time in my pajamas.

I am always a vegetarian and occasionally vegan. People love going out to eat with me.

I live in Gloucester, Massachusetts - the oldest seaport in the country - with my husband Peter in a tumbledown seaside house. I work in a corner of the living room by the window, with a view of the sea, on a huge Shaker desk littered with carved wooden owls. When the wind blows in from the north, my house creaks like an old ship. Gazing out over the salt marshes and boats, I can see sky and waves and shifting colors. It's easy to imagine distant places and mysterious other worlds.

I love writing for children because I remember my own excitement reading books when I was young: the nooks and crannies of my hometown library, the musty smell of old pages, and the sheer joy of escaping into a book. My hope is to fire the imaginations of young people so they can treasure and love the amazing power of stories.

It all started in northern New Jersey because that's where I'm from. My hometown is surrounded by a bunch of other small towns in a remote area known as The Middle of Nowhere. In elementary school, I walked down our endless dirt driveway to get to the bus stop. We lived in the mountains, and on a clear day you could see New York City. There were a lot of woods and deer and woods and horses and farms and sprawling fields. And then there were more woods.

Which is nice when you're older and you go back to visit and appreciate nature and all. But growing up there was beyond boring. Although I was raised in the country, I've always been a city girl at heart. So I focused my creative energy on visualizing the kind of life I wanted to live when my real life started. I made a lot of wishes about how I wanted my future life to be. I couldn't wait to graduate and go away to college.

Holly Nicole Hoxter:
Her website is too simple, boring, and the color is too bright. I didn't enjoy visiting her website at all. If only she added some images, better colors...

Christine Brodien-Jones:
Her website is very resourceful, though a bit classy. I like how it's organized, and has a lot of interesting information.

Susane Colasanti:
Her website is very cute, simple, and girly. I like how you can easily click on something without searching for it, and how it's designed as a notebook; very creative!

Holly - I really enjoyed the Bio and the FAQ pages...some parts made me giggle!

Christine - I love that she adopted that owl and supports their rescue. She's definitely getting the word out there on how everyone can help, and I think that's great!

Susane - I found it extremely interesting that she has never owned a cell phone or a TV. Me being the technological nerd that I am can't even imagine!

Holly: I love that shade of blue and the way the orange accents it. The links are simple, but it still looks nice.

Christine: Very professional looking site. I love her author photo. I LOVE the cover of her book and can't wait to read it. I like the link for classroom and book club use!

Susane: The scrapbook look is cute--fun link buttons. I'm glad the layout gets larger when you link to the other pages. Nice and colorful, but easy to read.

Thanks, Liz! I'm trying to get caught up. :-)

Holly Nicole Hoxter:
I thought her FAQs were super fun and great to read!

Christine Brodien-Jones:
I really liked that she had 'quick links' on the side. There was a lot there that you can really spend forever trying to find on a site.

Susane Colasant:
Her site is fun and not too adult but also not juvenile or kiddy--the layout really works for YA. (And it's super easy to find her books and what they're about.)

I loved the simplicity of Holly's website. Sometimes I have a tough time navigating a authors website that is filled with so much info. Holly's is right there and easy to access. I always love reading the about me's, makes me feel more connected to the author and I love how it's easy to find her contact button

On Christine's website I love how her book trailer is right there for you to see as soon as you hit the page. I love book trailers and it's always the first thing I look for after reading the blurb on a book

I love Susan's because it's girly and cute and makes me want to come back. Just really puts a smile on my face

Holly's site - There's not much stuff or image links on her site, so it doesn't look messy or anything. It's very organized. I loved her Bio & FAQ page. If i were a jelly bean, my flavor would be Cotton Candy or Bubble Gum. Those two are my favorite Jelly Bean Flavors. Ha! We watch the same TV Shows! Yay! Saw Doctor Who on the list. (:

Christine's site - Loved the Adopt a Wildlife program. I'd love to adopt a rescue owl, but i don't think i'd be able to take good care of it. aww. Anyway, i also loved her About Me page. Loved the photos on the side. Horseback Riding is fun!

Susane's site - Loved the notebook layout. Loved the Q&A page. John Mayer! I have a TV in my room, but i rarely use it. o_O Most of the time i use my laptop to watch the tv shows i like and movies also. Yay! The photos on her bio page are so lovely. She looked adorable in the first photo.
