Starcrossed; Josephine Angelini

Reading level: Young Adult
Publisher: HarperTeen (May 31, 2011)

Helen Hamiliton has always tried to hide how different she is—no easy feat on an island as small as Nantucket, and only getting harder as she finds herself haunted by hallucinations and vivid nightmares.

It’s not until she crosses paths with Lucas Delos at school that Helen’s true heritage is finally revealed. Yet even as Lucas helps her awaken to her startling powers, they can never be together—not unless they can break free from the tragic destiny the Three Fates have in store.

My Review

I had some serious reservations about reading Starcrossed. I had seen many times that it was like Twilight. I am a fan of Twilight but it is it's own story. I don't want to read the same story written by another. So I gave in and gave it a whirl. So here's my take....Starcrossed had a few things similar to Twilight such as ........

having a guy and a girl in love
the female main character didn't have any siblings
male main character had brothers and sisters (sorta)
they had issues in the beginning of their relationship
it contained mythical beings.

As you can see it has some similarities but the plot and the character are unique unto themselves.

That's pretty much it. I felt the story was unique, it's hard to redo a tale of forbidden love when it's been done so many ways and make it unique. Angelini pulled it off, I am now a HUGE fan!

Starcrossed produced a kindhearted but STRONG female protagonist, Helen. I am a huge fan of mythology and this hit the mark. It wasn't the typical bubble gum mythology either. It made sense and there was some serious SERIOUS butt kicking in Starcrossed. Lucas and Helen were something else. No, really they are something else, Scions to be exact. It all makes perfect sense, I swear. The book carried an ominous tone that one would expect with Gods at play and lets not forget the Fates. The Fates are Freaky with a capital F. So many well written characters who I love and feel like if they don't pump the next book out soon I just might explode.

I really enjoyed this and if you are looking for a action packed, forbidden love with a well rounded, 3 dimensional characters look no further. You won't be let down. Starcrossed is part of a Trilogy.

There are sure a lot of books that follow the same premise, and some do it better than others...but then I am not a Two fan anyway

Great, great review, Liz. I have this one on my Kindle (netGalley) but haven't read it yet. MUST read it after a review like that. :-)

At first I saw the Twilight comparisms so I had some reservations about reading it. But lately I`ve seen some positive reviews so now I`m more interested in giving this a try.
