I’ve been telling stories since before I could write. My earliest written efforts were disastrous. If asked for a story about girls and dolls, mine would invariably feature undead girls and evil dolls, much to my teachers’ dismay. All efforts to make me produce “normal” stories failed. Today, I continue to spin tales of ghosts and demons and werewolves, while safely locked away in my basement writing dungeon.

Emma Michaels

Emma Michaels was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, until she moved at eighteen to Washington State. Suddenly, the world was a new place filled with tall green trees that reached further for the sky with every moment, making her want to do the same. Ever since, she has tried to make her life something new and different from what it was before, pursuing her future career, setting high goals and reaching for them with every moment.

With her Debut novel, The Thirteenth Chime being released August 13th 2010 and future releases planned Emma Michaels aspires to one day make it to the top ten of the New York Times Best Sellers List. With her fiancé at her side and her small white Chihuahua, Hope, she writes, reads, reviews and tries to live everyday to its fullest, whether in the pages of a good book or reaching out to others.

I grew up outside of Washington DC, but it always felt like I had one foot in the South. By the time I was thirteen, my family moved in with my grandmother and great-grandmother, and we had four generations of women living under the same roof – two born and bred in a small town in North Carolina. I grew up drinking sweet tea, eating vegetables cooked with a little bacon grease, and biscuits made from scratch. I mean, didn’t everyone’s great-grandma know how to skin a chicken, tat lace, and make dresses without a pattern?

I wasn’t exactly like either of them. I wore tons of black, a lot of rings, and spent hours writing in my journals. By the time I graduated high school, I had probably filled a hundred of them and gotten my friends more than a few dates with my poetry. That was the beginning of writing for me.

I have an MA in education, and taught in the DC area until I moved to Los Angeles, where I was a teacher & Reading Specialist for twelve years. In addition to teaching, I led fantasy book groups for children and teens. I have learned more from my students than I ever learned in school. I still live in LA, with my husband, son, daughter, and our dog Spike (named after my favorite character in Buffy the Vampire Slayer). I’m very superstitious and have lots of charms. I love disaster movies, and I could easily live on pizza and Diet Coke.

I love these posts.
The first thing I really like about Kelley Armstrong's site is the Demonology 101 section. For Emma Michaels, I love the banner across the front page. Pretty trippy and very eye catching!
And for Kami Garcia, I love that she has so many different pages added to her site. They're all interesting. I'll have to spend some time on there after I'm done with this comment. :)

Kelley - The "mea culpa" page. An author who admits to and lists out her mistakes has to be awesome.

Emma - The banner for The Thirteenth Chime caught my eye. Definitely aesthetically pleasing!

Kami - I love the side-by-side book titles in the header. Also, the character playlists are great!

I love the post!

On Kelley Armstrong's site I am most excited about the Appearances page because it says that she will be at the Cedar Hills Powell's store in September! I am definitely going to make it to that one!

On Emma Michaels', I like the Advice for all Writers and Lit Lovers. As an aspiring author, I need all the advice I can get. :)

On Kami Garcia's, I really like her music playlist, she has some great songs. :)

Kelley - Oh my gosh, LOVE LOVE LOVE her, she is one of my fave authors. I haven't read The Gathering yet, but I am a HUGE fan of her Women Of The Otherworld series. Incredible author! I visit her website regularly and I think it's fantastic; so gorgeous.

Emma - I love how she's a book review blogger too and participates in the weekly posts like Teaser Tuesday and Follow Friday, like I do!

Kami - I liked reading through her entire bio. Especially about her living on pizza and diet coke. I totally could too, but instead of Diet Coke I'm a Diet Cherry Pepsi fan!

Kelley: Very cool. I love the way the books are showcased on the main page like that. When I clicked on the books link I almost fell over--I had no idea she written so many!!

Emma: Oh, those eyes always freak me out! I think it's clever of her to have the trailer on her main page. The ads on the other pages are kind of a turn-off.

Kami: I want to read these!! Look at all those awards on the left--way to go, Kami!! :-)

Thanks, Liz.
