Weekend Question

Weekend Question is a fun way to get to know my followers. I enjoy knowing little tidbits of your lives.

Weekend Question:

Is there a type of book you prefer not to read or can't get into?

I find it hard to get into hard core Sci-Fi. I think it pushes the boundaries of realistic and I find it hard to wrap my head around.  I have tried to read them, even with space robots and aliens who talk out of their chests. It's just to much for me. I also enjoy romance until it become pretty much porn. I just can't see the point of the read.

So what about you?

I'm with you on the sci-fi. The only remotely Sci-fi book i read and enjoyed was The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells, and I'm not even sure that really qualifies as sci fi.
The other genre that I almost never read is horror. Many years ago someone convinced me to try Stephen king. I read Misery, and that was enough for me :(

I love sci-fi, but not when it focuses on mechanics--of the spaceship, of the robots, of the AIs etc etc. In other words, no info-dumps, please. I vastly prefer the poetic sci-fi authors such as Ray Bradbury.
I also have a hard time with vamp lit. It's so copycat at this point. Why not make up your own monsters, or monster-cyphers? Also not too keen on books that focus on the high-concept to the detriment of the actual prose.

I have to think about this. I really like reading out of my comfortzone time to time, so there are a lot of books that have different genres that I still want to try. ;)

I really haven't read much sci-fi, so I shouldn't judge, but it doesn't seem like a good reading fit for me, either.

O good question!
Lately I can't get into cozy mysteries.

I do like some sci-fi only if it doesnt deal with too much psychics and math. I just get too confused if it does. Well I dont like reading anything non-fiction and read very little of it if any at all.

Horror no longer appeals to me, my days of Dean Koontz and Stephen King reads are only past memories now for about 15 years...
Another genre cannot get into and have no taste for is M/M Romance, it does not appeal to me... Funny thing is the M/F/M romance genre on the other hand does not bother me much!(unless there is hard core BDSM and scenes bordering on rape)

I have trouble getting into high fantasy novels. The world building is wonderful. Unfortunately, I hardly get to know the characters, and I can't get into a book if I don't really get a good idea of who the character is.
