Kathleen McKenna; The Wedding Gift (giveaway)

  • Paperback: 240 pages
  • Publisher: CreateSpace (July 12, 2010)

Synopsis
It is a spine-electrifying supernatural tale where a huge Southern States mansion contains one of the most terrifying, violent and indeed psychopathic ghosts to haunt any town. It is also a murder mystery - why did Robina Willets apparently kill all five of her young children, and her husband, before stabbing herself to death? And, if you are in the camp of believing that 'justice .... just is not', then this will have you frothing at the mouth with righteous social fury. Add to that the vision of two exceptionally beautiful girls lying on a landing stage in the middle of a secluded lake, sleeping naked in the sun .... .... and then see if you can find any consecutive ten minutes in this book when you don't at least snicker at the heroine Leeann's sly, caustic, sometimes-knowing sometimes 'too stupid to live' commentary.

My Review
Don't let the title fool you. This is not a wedding gift you would ever wish for. I would have NEVER in a million years would have guessed this plot. It was unique and dived in to such serious topics that left me shocked. Kathleen can sure tell a story. Even thought the main character is a teen herself, I do not recommend this for teens. The morals of the main character definitely lack. Some times it made me cringe especially the drinking and drugs while pregnant. There are a few smaller things that bothered me. I was confused at first because I felt the plot was set in an earlier era only to realize it was set in todays world. I also didn't feel the southern-ish Oklahoma draw was true. I guess because I lived in OK for some time and never heard a single person speak that way.  These are smaller issues that are extremely easy to over look. Especially when the plot was so active. You really were at the edge of your seat for the entire book. The story was spooky even if you don't believe in ghosts. I probably will have a nightmare or two. The writing was very visual. I felt I was there even when I didn't want to be. Again nightmares. LOL (I am a wimp) I zipped right though this book.

I am looking forward to future book by Kathleen McKenna.

Sadly books that have things like drug abuse and drug abuse while pregnant are scarier than any horror book. This does sound suspenseful and your review has intrigued me.
