Simone Elkeles; Rules Of Attraction (extra entry day)

  • Reading level: Young Adult
  • Hardcover: 336 pages
  • Publisher: Walker Books for Young Readers (April 13, 2010)

Synopsis

Carlos Fuentes doesn't want any part of the life his older brother, Alex, has laid out for him in Boulder, Colorado. He wants to keep living on the edge, and carve his own path?just like Alex did. Unfortunately, his ties to a Mexican gang aren't easy to break, and he soon finds himself being set up by a drug lord.

When Alex arranges for Carlos to live with his former professor and his family to keep him from being sent to jail, Carlos feels completely out of place. He's even more thrown by his strong feelings for the professor's daughter, Kiara, who is nothing like the girls he's usually drawn to. But Carlos and Kiara soon discover that in matters of the heart, the rules of attraction overpower the social differences that conspire to keep them apart.

As the danger grows for Carlos, he's shocked to discover that it's this seemingly All-American family who can save him. But is he willing to endanger their safety for a chance at the kind of life he's never even dreamed possible?

My Review

Carlos seemed bitter as if he gave up on life to easy. That he was destined to be a nobody or a gang member. Well his mother had enough of him falling into the wrong crowd so she shipped him off to his brother Alex (yes yes we remember him ;) ) How far can you run from gangs before you are not going to be targeted? The answer is not far enough. This was a wonderful, suspenseful, action packed as it can get read. I really loved Kiara's stay true to herself character. It made her come to life. The writing was easy and seamless. The ending was a shocking surprise. Another smash hit for Simone! Was this as good as Perfect Chemistry???? YES!! You should go out and pick it up. Plus isn't the cover amazing?

I have to say that Simone Elkeles is another author I've discovered thanks to book blogs, but so far she is only on my wishlist (too many books for too little time). I know that I have only read so many great reviews praising her books that I will definitely check them out soon!

I just started reading Simone's books and started with Leaving Paradise which I thought was great. She writes very realistic teenagers. I've been wanting to read this book since everyone raves about it, so hopefully I'll be able to get it soon.
