What is Book Reading?

You know when you first wake up and you can tell what the weather is outside without even looking?  That was me this morning. So I picked up a book.  My nice and sunny Florida was overcast skiesMy husband asked me what is it about reading? I looked at him in a flabbergasted way. Yet I didn't know how to answer him in the simple answer he was expecting.

So I was asking myself that same question. What is it about reading??

Is it a type of comfort? Possibly, I do feel a kind of peace while curled up in just the right spot. Being wrapped up in a throw and having a 20oz of Pepsi. (Yeah I love Pepsi) Or sitting next to my husband with my legs thrown across him. All the while my little one rubbing the hand I am not holding the book with to rub my finger nail.  It does feel like a place I can call home.

Is it to escape?  Maybe, Who wouldn't like to live another life for a few hours to feel and experience things that on any other occasion wouldn't have the chance. If I am having a rough day who wouldn't want to become a Pirate or be the Queen of England or even fall in love with a ghost? Do I want to live those lives permanently? No way! I love being a mom and a wife. Maybe reading is a place to calm your mind.

Is it an obsession?   It depends on who you ask! If you ask me I would be inclined to answer NO! If you asked someone who isn't a book reader or someone who reads occasionally they would probably say yes. I had a friend ask me the other day to sniff his book. OO boy did it smell good. It was 85 yrs old. (Haha weird) Does my husband think I have an obsession? No, he is happy I have something in life in which I am so enthusiastic for. Something I have so much passion for. He finds not enough people find something in life that they fall in love with. So I am one of the LUCKY ones!

Going back to the main question What is it about reading?

Reading to me is everything. It can come in many different shape and sizes. I can change my mood with a different pick of book. Entertainment at it's highest level. That's why the book is always better then the movie.  It's a feel of serenity. It's a joy to know m son can have the same feeling about reading I do. It's a little of everything rolled out and written on pages.  I don't know if I will ever be able to put it into the right words.

     It's Love

So I ask You what is it about reading?

Difficult to explain. I love reading, it's a escape from the real world and I just enjoy reading about all the other wonderful places on earth..

I agree with your explaination. Books are like friends, when the friends you have are not around. Books take us places we probably couldn't go and exprience.

Reading is so much!! There is no sufficient way for me to explain all the things reading does for me. It's cathartic and mesmerizing and something I have never been without.

Its impossible to truly explain, but I will give it a go...

Reading is believing in your imagination. Reading is remembering the smell of fresh cut grass, the sound of giggles late at night, the feeling you get when the sun shines on your face and the wind tousles your hair.

Its the taste of ice cream, the memory of a kiss; the hope that people can change and the proof that they do. Its mindless hours of silly situations we all wish we were a part of, or studious lessons on the particles of physics. Reading is wondering what we could have done and remembering to do all that we can.

Reading is life...

It is most definitely...all of the above for me ;)
A comfort, a break, an escape, an obsession, and a deep love.

Oh, where to begin! A comfort, a escape, and obsession (guilty!) but in the end, it's pure enjoyment. There aren't that many activities that you are given the story but left to imagine the actual events being played out in your mind. It's one of those things that can be shared with others, but never in exactly the same way since you all take something different away from the read. It's pure bliss. ^_^

Wow! What a question, Liz! Ummm... reading is magic, plain and simple. Beautiful, warm and fuzzy, contentment and bubble bath magic! :-)
