Cassandra Clare; City Of Bones: The Mortal Instruments Series

  • Reading level: Young Adult
  • Paperback: 512 pages
  • Publisher: McElderry (February 19, 2008)
  •  Synopsis
Their hidden world is about to be revealed.... When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Clary knows she should call the police, but it's hard to explain a murder when the body disappears into thin air and the murderers are invisible to everyone but Clary. Equally startled by her ability to see them, the murderers explain themselves as Shadowhunters: a secret tribe of warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. Within twenty-four hours, Clary's mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....

My Review

Relief, I feel like a layer of weight is now gone. I have been in a funk and thanks to Cassandra's wonderful series the dark period has ended.  Even though I am much older then the characters it was easy to relate to them. Clary was strong willed, and Simon the ever loving best-friend had well spelled out characters.  Life for Clary seemed to turn itself upside down all because she could REALLY see.  I enjoyed Jace's sulking bad boy attitude. I felt the book could have added another 100 pages and it would not have lagged. I had no urge to put it down. Clary's mother has gone missing she is head-spun trying to take in this new life she never knew about all the while proving she isn't just a mundane.  All the while still being a teen and having boy drama.
I recommend this to anyone who loves a good action packed book with lots of paranormal activities.

I have this series sitting on my shelf waiting for me to read, (I picked them up from my local library) but I just haven't had the time to read them. After hearing all of the great stuff everyone is saying about them, I think I'll make more of an effort!
